Trail Development Plan
( approved July 28, 2003)
The Commons Committee shall oversee the development of a trail system
within the conservation easement as well as trails in the developed area
which provide access for the residents of Two Echo.
The trail system shall be developed to meet the following goals and
objectives of the Two Echo Cohousing Community:
- to create a trail system which is largely outside the developed area
and within the conservation easement, for use by Two Echo residents and
the general public.
- to develop and maintain a trail system as an amenity for the use and
enjoyment of Two Echo residents, neighbors, and the general public
- to identify, by color, the access trails which lead to and from the
developed area
- to identify by color distinct trails which may be followed
- to provide signage at trail junction, head or terminus for orientation,
access restriction, and navigation purposes
- to provide one or more trails which may be incorporated in any wider
area trail system which links to abutting easements (Wood Pond Village)
and the Cox Pinnacle land across Hacker Road now owned by the Town of
Brunswick
- to locate trails which may be incorporated in a wider trail system so
that they are within the conservation easement and away from the developed
area while still easily accessible from the developed area by Two Echo
residents
- to provide guidance for the development of the Two Echo trail system
- to provide oversight through the Commons Committee of the implementation
of a trail system plan to meet the Community's goals and objectives
The trail system shall be developed in general accord with the attached
schematic trail map. The colors on the map are for identification purposes
only and are not necessarily the colors to be used to mark the indicated
trail. Trail map notation and trail descriptions:
- Solid lines denote existing trails and dashed lines trails to be built
- Brown - existing woods road which starts behind lot 13 and leads to the
woods road off Two Echo which continues to White's Beach. Easy to follow;
intersects a number of color-coded trails (blue, yellow, red) and is intended
to remain unmarked.
- Yellow -a through trail which would connect access from Cox Pinnacle
with the Wood Pond Village easement boundary. Two possible access segments
from Cox Pinnacle are shown. One would connect to a trail through the
Benner property from Hacker Road opposite the Cox Pinnacle land. The other
off Echo Road at the end of the easement through the Freshley property.
- Black - unmarked trail segments which lead off the Two Echo property
onto private property
- Hatched black -existing trail segment to be closed. An alternative would
be to retain the trail as part of the orange trail with a Y intersection at
the stream.
- Orange - based on the existing trail from the east parking lot over to
the woods road which continues off Two Echo to White's Beach. Extending the
trail along the east boundary and through the field on the north side of the
stream would form a loop trail with the through trail (yellow).
- Red -built on two existing sections - the branch off the through trail
to the force main corridor from the lot 22/23 trail access point to the west
(septic) field, and the trail from the southwest corner abutting White's
Beach land to the cross trail (orange). The unbuilt connection might
incorporate much of the trail originally laid out by Katie, Daniel & Enid
which passes near "sun rock". An extension from the southwest corner along
the south boundary and former beaver pond would loop back to the through
trail.
- Blue - trail segments which link the trails in the conservation easement
to the developed area. Signage might be employed to discourage use of these
trails by other than Two Echo residents and visitors.
The approval of the Commons Committee is required for proposed routing of
trails to be built; the marking colors and paints or markers to be used;
signage; improvements such as trail grading, drainage and walkways or
bridging.
The Commons Committee shall represent the Two Echo Community in matters
relating to the incorporation of the Two Echo trails into any wider area
trail system with any formal or binding agreement being subject to approval
by the Members of the HOA.
The Commons Committee is given responsibility for modifying, overseeing,
implementing and administering this plan to meet the stipulated goals and
objectives.
This proposal will replace the existing trail proposal process which is
not based on any overall plan or objective.
